So back in August of last year, one Saturday we were bored and it was too hot to do anything outside, so I wondered on FB and started looking up things to do around town. A "fashion show model call" for back to school aged kids was happening in like 2 hours at Memorial City Mall. I jumped up and told the kids to get ready and we headed that way. No chance to buy cute clothes or anything! It was more of a fun outing and hey if we win, that's cool too! So we arrived at the mall and I'm not kidding there was about 300 students all entering for the fashion show contest. We signed up and waited our turn to walk the runway. My kids have never walked a runway but did awesome!
Well it was time to select the winners and whoever won, would come back in a few weeks to be in the actual fashion show and would also win gift cards, money and a full ride scholarship to a local modeling agency.
The kids were so nervous, but I think dad and I was a bit more! My nails were gone by the end of the contest! So the agency selected one boy and one girl for elementary, middle, and then high school. Well guess who won for elementary!?!?! ZANE!!! His name was the first one called and we freaked out! But now, we were even more nervous because we wanted Skylar to win as well but knew the chances of both siblings winning were slim to none! They selected the girl for elementary, not Skylar. Then it was off to name the middle school kiddos. They named the boy for middle school and then finally the girl for middle school.....SKYLAR!
We were in complete shock that not only one child but both children won! So we came back for the fashion show and started up the modeling school in November. It was every Saturday for 6 months about an hour from our house. So it was tough but we got through it.
Well today both Skylar and Zane got signed on with their first modeling agency and we are thrilled!
As a child model myself, I know how wonderful it can be for your self esteem but I also know how brutal it can be. We are not looking at this experience for our children to become top models, but are looking at this experience at just that, its a wonderful experience! I will be watching like a mama hawk and if at any time I feel like their self esteem is becoming less (or too much!) than we can always pull them out.
We are excited at what the future holds for their modeling careers!
